Living Dangerously
September 23, 1996
I was on weekend duty when I got the call on a Sunday morning about the Saturday night shooting of Tupac Shakur. Within hours I was on a plane to Vegas to report the story. One indelible memory: Overhearing a woman explain to another in the hospital elevator what had occurred. "A rapper got shot," she said matter-of-factly. "Snoop Pac." Tragically, the final words in the People article, uttered by the rapper's ex-wife, proved to be wrong. Tupac later died.
