The Glass Is Always Full
He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough.
Lao Tzu
DEAR BELOVED,
YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED. Even now as the planet nearly falls off its axis and plummets, as your emotions rise and descend like waves washing upon some jagged-edged shore. Even now as your blood runs fear-rigid in your veins. Even now as you leap-frog into seeming oblivion. I am here and I am always going to be here—with you and as you.
Relive those first moments when you came to inhabit your body temple. Life was all fluid, floating, rhythmic swishing and surrendering to the sounds of your own heartbeat and your mother’s loving, hosting cavity. Suddenly you were catapulted into what you reasoned to be a blinding, forsaken abyss. Oh, the terror! The sounds, the sensations, the distortions! It was overwhelming, devastating, really. And then you screamed. Life!
Over time, slowly and somewhat reluctantly, you gained your bearings. A breath, a step, a stride followed by inevitable tumbles and crashes. You explored, questioned and learned—the meaning of existence, the meaning of you, the meaning of me, the meaning of us. You began to remember what you had forgotten: What it was like to be held by me—safe, knowing, known. During the course of a fertile and sometimes febrile life, I sent you signs. (What fun I’ve had playing that game!) These appeared in the shape of dreams, in visions you glimpsed in the corner of your eye, in the melodies of a vaguely familiar song. I revealed myself to be everywhere and you remembered.
It is time to remember once again—now that what you thought was up is down, now that you find it difficult to fathom anything, really: The glass is always full—not half empty, not half full. I am fully you and you are wholeheartedly me. Let us live, fully.
Love,
God in You and As You
