I quickly realized when I sat down with John Savage of Deer Hunter and Hair fame in his Topanga, CA, home on a Sunday morning, this was not going to be a typical interview. He talked in an extremely circuitous manner, so it was hard to get the answers I needed. Once I decided to surrender, all went swimmingly. As planned, we  later watched a production of Hair starring his actress daughter at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. What was not on the calendar was the yummy Italian dinner we shared that evening. It had been a long day and sensing I was nervous about navigating the pitch-black road, Savage guided me out of the canyon and onto Pacific Coast Highway. He then gave me a sweet peck on the cheek before waving me on.
